John Berryman October 25, 1914- January 7, 2972
American poet and scholar born in McAlester, Oklahoma. Best known works are his series of The Dream Songs. Confessional poetry era. Poems usually derived from the details of his personal problems.

In this poem, Berryman uses an analogy to compare his mother to a "superhuman" Describes her in this way because she put up with indignities for seventy years. "Dies a death for two"

Was sent to Rogers Hall prepatory school when she began to write had 2 children 1956, mental condition and depression worsened tried commiting suicide several times started writing again as therapy 1969, published first book became a professor commtied suicide October 4, 1974

Sylvia Plath Born October 27, 1932 in Boston. Massachusetts
As a child published first poem Studied at Smith College Married poet Ted Hughes in 1956 and had 2 kids Committed suicide in 1963 Became the first poet to win Pulitzer Prize after being dead Best known for poems Colossus and Ariel
