Marquita Grenot-Scheyer
Panel Dr. Marquita Grenot-Scheyer serves as Assistant Vice Chancellor, Educator Preparation and Public School Programs, for the California State University (CSU), Office of the Chancellor. She is responsible for leading, coordinating, and facilitating system wide efforts to recruit, prepare, and retain teachers, counselors, and school leaders for schools and communities. She represents the CSU at state and federal levels, providing policy and practice recommendations to ensure high quality educator preparation programs. Prior to this appointment, she served as Dean of the College of Education at California State University, Long Beach. Dr. Grenot-Scheyer serves on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), the WestEd board, and was recently appointed (2018), to the board of directors for the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). Phelton Cortez Moss serves at the Mississippi Department of Educator as the state’s director of Educator Talent Acquisition and Effectiveness. Prior to joining the department he was a teacher, specialist, and school leader. He served as Teacher in Residence at the Mississippi Department of Education working on Innovative High Schools and the Third Grade Gate Exam. He then joined the Clarksdale Municipal School District as a Literacy and Data specialist serving Kirkpatrick Health and Medical Science Magnet Elementary School before assuming the role as Assistant Principal at Clarksdale High School. Moss served as the turnaround Principal of Quitman County Middle School in Marks, Ms. Under his leadership, in two years, Quitman County Middle School moved of the state’s list of failing schools to earned a successful C-rating, and cleared all accreditation violations. At 27, Moss was the youngest serving principal in the state of Mississippi. Dan Haddow is the Assistant Superintendent and Chief of Staff for the Germantown Municipal School District in Tennessee. His responsibilities include overseeing human resources, strategic planning, policy review and compliance. Prior to district administration, he spent more than 20 years in Shelby County Schools, including serving as a school leader. He has been a champion for HLPs in his district and supported an HLP emphasis through Professional Learning Communities.
