Definition:
“…the ability to arrive at a conclusion after careful consideration of facts or ideas, possible alternatives and criteria, probable consequences, and personal values” (Burns et al.)

4. Steps of Good Decision Making
Recognize that a need exists
Realize there are several ways to meet this need
Identify alternatives
Develop criteria to help select the alternative
Rank each alternative and judge how well each alternative satisfies the criteria
Justify the reasons for the choice based on sound criteria
