Just a Few Things Before We Start…
No need to take notes, although you can if you like. You will be provided with a sheet that contains the website information on it as well (if not please ask me for one.) When you are ready, take a few seconds to fill out the student information sheet in front of you please. By the end, if there are any questions I have not answered, please me!

A Little Bit About Me… I graduated from the University of Texas here in Austin with a B.A. in mathematics and completion of the UTeach program. I completed my student teaching here at Bowie High School. I worked as a math tutor at Mathnasium for a year. This is my second year teaching and my second year here at Bowie. Aside from teaching, I spend a lot of my time with my two dogs at home.

My Goals for this Class To learn as much as I can from my Pre-AP Geometry coworkers, Mrs. Pesek and Mrs. Stiles, who together have over 30 years of experience! To be on the same page and structure my class in the same format as my coworkers This allows for uniformity across the Pre-AP Geometry curriculum to ensure that all students are receiving equal benefits. To prepare students for future AP courses, college courses, and LIFE!!! Often times in math we are teaching problem solving skills throughout the curriculum that apply to much more than the realm of mathematics!

Block Schedule… It can be challenging at first, and sometimes difficult to remember which day it even is. Students will only attend this math course every other day, which may seem as though there is less practice time. Solution: Come to tutoring hours and FIT times. When a student misses a block day it is like missing two regular class days! Solution: Come in to grab any missed notes, ask for help. There are also notes and homework assignments online. There is more time to come in for help and more time to complete homework! The activities are longer to obtain practice and help with retention! There are less classes to focus on from day to day! YAY!
6
Grading Policy… Homework will be 15% of their grade.
If students are doing the homework then they will be in good shape. Quizzes will be 15% of their grade. There will be several quizzes each six weeks. If a quiz is missed the test grade will replace this. One quiz grade will be dropped each six weeks. Tests will be 70% of their grade. There will be 2 to 3 tests each six weeks. The six weeks test will allow students to make up their test grade for up to a 75 (the six weeks grade will replace lowest REGARDLESS). Test corrections are NOT available for points back (they ARE available to work on mistakes and improve before the six weeks tests).

Late / Absent Work Late Work Absent Work
Students will have 3 calendar days (not class days) to complete any missing assignment for a maximum grade of a 50. After the three day grade period it will be an MSG (Missing-0). Absent Work Students have 3 school calendar days (per class day missed) to make up any absent work for FULL CREDIT back. After the 3 day grade period the late work policy will apply.

Tutoring Times… My tutoring hours are…
4:30-5:10 every afternoon. Even then, students are more than welcome to make an appointment with me at a different time, so there are many options. Mrs. Stiles and Mrs. Pesek are both available from 8:20-8:50 every morning. Students may sign up for FIT. This occurs every Tuesday and Wednesday after their first class. I will also be signing students up for my FIT class.
