Tundra Plants: arctic moss, caribou moss, arctic willow, bearberry
Animals: polar bear, caribou, squirrel, penguins, voles, hares Climate: extremely cold Rainfall: less than 10 inches per year Decomposers: moss, lichens, bacteria, fungi

Taiga (Coniferous Forest)
Plants: evergreen trees (spruce, hemlock, fir) Animals: hawk, owl, moose, lynx Climate: cold winters, warm humid summers Rainfall: 30 inches per year

Grasslands (North America: Prairie Europe/Asia: Steppe)
Plants: tall grasses, very few trees (found around rivers/streams) Animals: bison, prairie chicken, prairie dog, pronghorn Climate: hot summer, cold winters Rainfall: inches per year

Grasslands (Africa: Savanna)

Freshwater Often small bodies of water (no salt): lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, and creeks. Referred to as wetlands – which includes marshes, bogs and freshwater swamps. Plants: green river grasses, water lilies, algae, cattails, duckweed Animals: beavers, frogs, salmon, trout, crabs, raccoons, mosquitos, birds, amphibians

Estuaries Areas where rivers meet the sea—both saltwater and freshwater Plants: smooth cordgrass, seagrass, spike grass, sea lavender, purple loosestrife, Animals: shore birds, fish, crabs, lobsters, clams, shellfish, marine worms, reptiles

Marine This saltwater biome covers ¾ of the Earth’s surface. The Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Artic, and Southern oceans are all marine biomes! Coral Reefs are part of the Marine ecosystem. Plants: seaweed, phytoplankton, marine algae, kelp Animals: salmon, plankton, dolphins, sharks, coral
