2 LCI Vision/Strategy/Tactics
Vision (Stays constant) • Transformational improvement in: The delivery of value to project stakeholders, and The quality of the work environment for ALL participants • Achievement of the above through the Lean re-integration of a siloed industry Strategy (Reviewed, updated every 3-5 years) • Create: Demand (for Lean) in the owner community, and capacity (to execute Lean projects) within General Contractors, Trade Partners, and the Design Community 2019 Tactics (Reviewed, updated annually) • Lean leadership training, mentoring, and support Targeted outreach to key owners/markets, incl. Owner Communities of Practice • Focused Research supporting the above • Penetration into universities & student community (Lean Leader Group)

LCI’s “Young Professionals” Group Established to provide LCI with the perspective of “next gen” Lean leaders and foster peer-level outreach at the University level Includes (12) representatives of Board member companies 2019 Focus Areas: Encouraging CoPs’ outreach to universities/AEC students Defining steps to form Lean student chapters/CoPs at universities Supporting formation of 2 student chapters currently in process Sponsoring student-focused events and lectures Spreading Lean awareness and tools to students

7 Education Programs LCI Classroom Courses
Basic to advanced, including hands-on learning Typically delivered locally by CoPs, all taught by LCI-approved instructors LCI eLearning Courses (new in 2018) Basic training in support of project deployment Available now or coming soon: Intro to Last Planner® System Intro to Lean Project Delivery Lean In The Design Phase Effective Big Room (coming mid-2019) New courses will continue to be developed at the rate of 3 per year LCI-distributed Books: Various topics, available on the LCI website

Includes 7 academics from universities with Lean programs Surveyed prior Lean research work to identify best available Developing multi-year road map for new research by LCI Projects Completed - Guide to Lean deployment on projects, Project validation best practices On tap - enhancements to Last Planner® System (P2SL Berkeley) Other 2019 projects still in definition phase Survey-type research has explored business case for Lean for Owners and Design professionals

10 New Initiatives for 2019 Design Community Outreach
Board task group made up of design community members (primarily Architectural Firms) Mobilizing CoP support and outreach to AIA chapters in larger markets Developing new content ideas to spur broader interest across the industry in our meeting programs Plan to use Design Forum in particular as venue to communicate new content Trade Partner Outreach Underserved industry segment with targeted Lean outreach efforts Partnering with unions and other associations to reach the base Trade partner members of the board spearheading this effort

Owner Outreach Supports “Demand” component of overall Mission (transform the industry by delivering significantly better capital project outcomes through Lean) Driven by LCI Owners’ Committee  Acts as catalyst for peer-to-peer engagement within the Owner Community Promotes sharing of best practices through network of owner- only Communities of Practice Common voice demanding improved performance from the AEC supply chain Goal: Encourage owners to utilize Lean Moving them from prospects to learners to coaches along an established Lean awareness-to-deployment continuum

12 Summary LCI Continues to be the leading resource for Lean in Construction through tools such as the Last Planner System and promotion of enterprise-wide approaches to Lean thinking/deployment Through LCI’s Board of Directors, Committees, and local CoPs, LCI has a growing presence across the key stakeholders in the built environment LCI continues to fund research to support our mission, and provide education through various means (print, seminars, e-learning, Congress, etc.)
