Stay calm Reassure the child, young person or person and show concern for them Believe them Listen carefully Allow the child, young person or person to talk without interruption Do not ask leading questions Do not promise to keep anything secret

3 Responding to disclosures or concerns
Follow local safeguarding policy and procedures with regard to: contacting and reporting details of disclosure to safeguarding lead recording details of disclosure or concern informing other agencies (eg Social Services, Police) and the child/young person/person’s family maintaining the child/young person/person’s immediate safety.
