1 Visualizing Geometry Skill 01

2 Objective HSG-CO.1a: Students are responsible for understanding and creating nets and drawings of three-dimensional figures.

3 Definitions A net is a two-dimensional diagram that you can fold to form a three-dimensional figure. An isometric drawing shows a corner view of a three-dimensional figure. An orthographic drawing is a way to represent a three-dimensional figure using three separate views; top, front, and right.

4 Example 1: Identifying a solid from a net
a) The net folds into the cube. Which letters will be on top and front of the cube? D B A C E F E D C E becomes the top C becomes the front

5 Example 1: Identifying a solid from a net
b) The net folds into the cube. Which letters will be on top and right of the cube? D B A C E F E B C E becomes the top C becomes the right

6 Example 2: Drawing a Net from a Solid
a) What are two possible nets for the figure? Label net with dimensions. 20 cm 14 cm 6 cm 20 cm 6 cm 14 cm 6 cm 14 cm 20 cm

7 Example 2: Drawing a Net from a Solid
b) What are two possible nets for the figure? Label net with dimensions. 10 cm 7 cm 24 cm 10 cm 7 cm 24 cm 24 cm 10 cm 7 cm

8 Example 3: Isometric Drawing
a) What is an isometric drawing of the cube structure? Front Right

9 Example 3: Isometric Drawing
b) What is an isometric drawing of the cube structure? Right Front

10 Example 4: Orthographic Drawing
a) What is the orthographic drawing for the isometric drawing? Top Right Front Right Front

11 Example 4: Orthographic Drawing
