Born in 1926 in Monroeville, Alabama Neighbor and good friend to Truman Capote Father was a lawyer Lee was a tomboy as a young girl and loved to read Study law at the University of Alabama but never finished the degree

Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2007 for contributions to literature
