Scientists agree that the following characteristics are necessary to be considered alive: • respond to their environment • grow and change • reproduce and have offspring • have a complex chemistry • maintain homeostasis • are built of structures called cells //organization • pass their traits onto their offspring absorb/obtain energy

Lab Around the room, there are different stations of living, non-living, products, dormant, and dead things. Work with a partner. Move to the next station when time is called. Identify whether you think it is living, non- living, a product, dormant or dead. Explain why you categorized the item as living, non-living, a product, dormant, or dead. Answer the questions once you are done.
