Garment Washing Garment Dry Process Lec. Umair Alam

Garment Dry Process  Denim dry process comes before wet process and it changes the visual appearance by mechanical abrasion without altering the construction and properties. The garment gets a nice look after dry process and also it adds value to the product. Fashionable garments are produced by the dry process.

Process sequence of Denim dry process is given below : 1. Raw Garments 2. Whiskering 3. Hand Scraping 4. Tagging 5. Washing → Normal, Enzyme & Acid wash etc 6. Hydro-extracting 7. Drying 8. Destroy 9. P.P. Spray 10. Grinding 11. Washing & Neutralization 12. Softening 13. Hydro-extraction 14. Drying 15. Finishing

Whiskering: Whiskering is the first process and one of the most important process in denim dry process. Different whiskering pattern is developed according to the design and the garment is scrabbed over the prepared pattern with abrasive paper or emery paper to get the whiskered effect or fading effect. Whisker can be made in different ways. But the top most ways are as follows.  By whiskering pattern  By Manual hand scrap.  By using laser Machine

Hand Scraping / Sanding This dry process is applied after whiskering to remove the color or fade specific area of the garments and become very important now a days. Abrasive paper, Air dummy ( horizontal ), gum tape and Hand is used. This process is more used as sand blasting process is banned due to hazardous to health. Hand scraping process is given below :  First the garments is mounted on the air dummy and fitted into two M.S. pipe  Both end of each pipe covered with rubber tube and tightened by suitable clamping  After inserting the garments then the dummy is filled with compressed air as per required pressure  While scraping with hand, Pressure should be uniform  Then sent to washing to get the desired effect.

Grinding :  Grinding is the destruction of edges or the worn out effect on the edge of the garments.  It is often done on hem, pocket edge, west belt, pocket opening and pocket pluf of the garments.  It brings old look appearance and creates high fashion garments. Grinding machine is used to destroy the edges. For grinding small size stones are used in the grinding machine.

Destroy :  Destroy is the most popular distressing method which is done by pen grinding machine with different size stones. It look like holes and worn out white yarns which make garments unique and fashionable.

Tagging:  Tagging is the process which is done at unwashed condition of garments.  The effect is visible after wash. It is usually at the edge area by folding the garments.  This process can be done by the tag gun, plastic staple machine or manually.  Sometimes this process damages the garments by creating holes.

PP Spray:  Potassium permanganate spray on the garments at specific area.  This chemical is sprayed to reduce the color from garments.  First, the garment is put into dummy then the forced air circulation is applied.  Then we spray PP with the help of PP gun aided by air pressure.  This spray is done on the scrapping area and after neutralization a white look appears on the spray area.

Crinkle  Crinkle is the process by this we squeeze the garments at front and back knee area.  This process is done by crinkle machine or by manual clipping of specific area.  First time we have to spray the resin on the marked area.  Then garment is clipped and put into curing over at 150C for a certain time.  Another process is after resin spray, squeezed by machine.
