1 WELCOME ART AND DESIGN GCSE

3 Work is assessed under 4 different
GCSE ART 60% Coursework (2 projects THE SEA and Photography project) 40% Exam project (Students select from a choice of themes selected by the examining board) Work is assessed under 4 different assessment objectives (Each objective is worth 25%)

4 The 4 Assessment Objectives that have to be followed are worth 25% each out of a maximum of 96 marks. This means each AO is marked out of 24. Assessment Objective 1: Developing ideas Assessment Objective 2: Experimenting and Selecting appropriate media Assessment Objective 3: Recording ideas and observations Assessment Objective 4: Present a personal and informed final piece

5 Develop their ideas through investigations informed by contextual and other sources demonstrating analytical and cultural understanding. AO1 Develop good ideas Use other artists’ ideas to help you Find relevant artists to look at. Use this work to inspire ideas and mini pieces of work. Visit museums, galleries, cities, parks etc to inspire your work. Show you can analyse your own and others artwork through personal comments

6 Refine their ideas through experimenting and selecting appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes AO2 Refine your work by trying different processes to show improvement Tell a story about how your idea has grown Try your idea out by experimenting with different media Evaluate how successful your experiments have been Throw nothing away!

7 Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to their intentions in visual and/or other forms
AO3 Collect and present only relevant imagery Produce high quality work – drawings, paintings, sculptures, photography, digital work etc. Take your own photographs to work from Annotate your work to show your reasons behind your ideas and research Document your work as it progresses Keep records of non-visual things too – interviews, mind maps, gallery leaflets, objects etc.

8 Present a personal, informed and meaningful response demonstrating analytical and critical understanding, realising intentions and where appropriate, making connections between visual, written, oral or other elements. AO4 Produce a high quality and confident final piece. Ensure your piece links to your prep work. This piece should bring together all of your best ideas and skills you have explored in the project. It should be a personal piece of work, and so the idea should be your own (using inspiration from artists and research during your project)

9 All Coursework is due in on Monday 11th March 2019
Sketchbooks, subsidiary sheets, A1 sheets and Final Pieces Students have been able and can still take their folders home to work on the feedback that their teacher has given them for : The Sea Project The Photography Project

10 The Year 11 Exam is 10 hours across 2 days
3rd and 4th April The exam is on the theme that students themselves have chosen from a list of 7 themes with starting points. Their exam project is 40%.

11 The Themes students were given by the exam board were:
Students have been working on their exam project since January 7th It’s really important that students bring their sketchbook and their images from photoshoots to every lesson (USB or Memory card). Pupils will be creating their Final Piece for their exam project in their 10 hour exam. April 2nd : Deadline for all preparation for exam work Texture Abstract Messages The Elements Working Habitats Spaces

12 10 hours across 2 days on 3rd and 4th April
The Year 11 Art Exam: 10 hours across 2 days on 3rd and 4th April You can help – Ask to look at your child's sketchbook, if they have to explain any of their work, please remind them to write the explanation into their sketchbook Take your son or daughter to a specific place to complete a photoshoot relevant to their project theme. A visit to a gallery or a museum may help. Photographs of such places can enhance your child’s work.

13 Student Support and Preparation
Pupils have tasks guiding them through each week leading up to the exam days as well as 1:1 tutorials. These are entered on SMH too with some help sheets/forums Every day, Wednesday is our official day : an opportunity for pupils to attend art club to have 1:1 chats with an Art teacher. These are through booked sessions.

14 Moderators are in from June
What will pupils be doing in lessons in Art after this deadline before study leave? Time will be used as revision session for other subjects. Miss Andrews and myself will be moderated marking all coursework and exam projects Moderators are in from June

15 No work must be thrown away
