–que You already know the conjunction et: Bregans et Volubilis sunt servi. Bregans and Volubilis are slaves. Salvius intravit et servos inspexit. Salvius entered and inspected the slaves.
2
–que Another way of joining two words is to add –que onto a word. The –que just means and. Bregans Volubilisque sunt servi. Bregans and Volubilis are slaves. Salvius intravit servosque inspexit. Salvius entered and inspected the slaves.
3
–que Note that the –que doesn’t change the meaning of the word it’s attached to. Bregans Volubilisque sunt servi. - Volubilis is still nominative, even though it has –que on it. Salvius intravit servosque inspexit. servos is still accusative plural, even though it has –que on it
4
–que Also, the –que can be attached to a word that it’s not joining with another word… Salvius intravit servosque inspexit. In this sentence, what two words are being joined by a conjunction? “He entered and he inspected.” It’s okay for the –que to be attached to another word entirely.
5
–que No big deal! Just when you see –que, remember that it means that you’ve got to throw an and into the sentence! magister erat laetus discipulosque laudavit. The teacher was happy and praised the students.
