Opening: What importance does the role of TONE hold? Shut up/That’s fantastic/ Text Examples: What are some MOODS (a.k.a. tone) as authors we might try to convey to our readers? What are some literary devices we may use to get our MOODS across? Work Period: What MOOD are you trying to create in your moment – AND ARE YOU SUCCESSFUL? What are some tools you use? What are some tools you need to implement more efficiently? Revise to do so Closing: Share with a partner the improvements you have made – were they effective?

Moody Mapped Journal Create a journal entry FOCUSING ON THE MOOD OF THE MOMENT as if you are writing in the moment of a Prospector staking your claim in the Gold Rush. Label the mood at the top Write it as a group creating the entry. ON THE FLIP SIDE – create a map of where you staked your claim yesterday. include the map elements which we discussed yesterday. *They MUST BE USED ACCURATELY. SS (R): How can we interpret the map of the Klondike Gold Rush?
Take what you have learned about maps this week and apply them to this map of the Gold Rush – ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS, NUMBERED, ON THE BACK OF THE MAP PAGE. DON’T FORGET YOUR HEADING!!! Turn in to the box when finished. How many possible routes does your map show? Where does the route begin? Which possible route would have been the longest? Which route would have passed closest to the Gulf of Alaska? Which route would have passed closest to the Bering Sea? Which route would have passed closest to the Beaufort Sea? Create a compass rose, and title for your map. Mark the scale on your map.

Station 1: Readers/Social Studies/Writers: ON MANILA PAPER: Compare and Contrast Farah (The Other Side of the Sky) to the Gold Diggers (Call of the Klondike) to EITHER Walt or Sam McGee. Format – your choice; MUST HAVE: three compares/three contrasts/explanations of each; How you think each would have done in the others “experience” A compare/contrast MAP of two routes Station 3: Science Conservation of Matter: Steel Wool & Vinegar Steel Wool vs. Vinegar Question: What happens when you combine vinegar with steel wool? Materials: steel wool, vinegar, bottles, and a balloon.
