There are lots of different kinds of living things We group them into big groups by what they have in common. The biggest group is kingdom (Animal) The smallest group is species (you)

3 Taxonomy Taxonomy The science of classifying living things is called
King Phillip cried out for goodness sakes Kindom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species

6 Why do we Use Latin? Scientific language is always Latin
Latin is a dead language... Nobody uses it All scientists all over the world can use the same name. When you use Latin you always put it in italitcs. Genus is Capitalized Species is lower case

7 Why is there diversity? Animals can live in many different places
Animals need to eat different things Animals can move different ways They are adapted to their environment This means that with their habits and their physical body type they can only live in one environment. They match it perfectly. This is the animals Habitat.

8 Habitat Animals live in a habitat that meets their needs.
In order to survive an animal needs Shelter Food and water A climate to which they are adapted A way to meet other animals of the same species so they can mate.

9 Habitat and adaptations
