Thursday Assignment Using this powerpoint, complete the following.
1. Check your Venn Diagram from the board (slide 2) 2. Check your questions from the board (slides 3 & 4) 3. Read through the “Final facts on Cell Respiration,” (the rest of the slides) and the weblink on muscle metabolism (slide 8) some of it might show up on tomorrow’s quiz. 4. Review for the quiz using the link on my website that says: It is a “Quizlet” website. There are many ways to review at the top of the web page. Explore a couple of your choice.

Stage of Process What goes in? What goes out? 1. Light Reaction Sunlight, H2O O2, ATP, NADPH 2. Calvin Cycle CO2, NADPH, ATP Sugar (G3P --> glucose) Glycolysis Glucose 2 pyruvates, 2ATP, 2 NADH Pyruvate Oxidation 2 pyruvates 2CO2, 2 acetyl CoA 2. Citric Acid Cycle 2 acetyl CoA 4 CO2, NADH, FADH2, ATP 3. Oxidative Phosphorylation NADH, FADH2, O2 ATP, H2O

Final facts on Cell Respiration

Importance of Oxygen in the process
Oxygen is used in the final stage: oxidative phosphorylation The role of oxygen in cellular respiration is substantial. As a final electron receptor, it is responsible for removing electrons from the system with the formation of H2O

• If oxygen were not available:
– Electrons could not be passed among the coenzymes. – The energy in electrons could not be released. – The proton pump could not be established. – ATP could not be produced. – Without sufficient ATP, a cell depending upon mitochondrial ATP for energy will die. – When enough cells die, the entire organism will die.

How does this relate to when I run around or play basketball?
Read the information from this link to find out: metabolism What are some advantages and disadvantages about anaerobic respiration?

Now what? 4. Review for the quiz using the link on my website that says: Or use this link: It is a “Quizlet” website. There are many ways to review at the top of the web page. Explore a couple of your choice.
