2 An opportunity to consider how we might use our gifts and talents.
w/b 18th September 2017 An opportunity to consider how we might use our gifts and talents.

3 Talents Word Jesus told a story (Matthew ) about three characters who had different attitudes to their gifts and talents. In the story, a businessman was going to be away for a while, so he entrusted some of his wealth to his three servants. One of them was given a lot, another was given a smaller amount and the third was given a single portion.

4 Talents Word The three characters must have had varied reactions to this unequal sharing, but, nevertheless, they each made their plans. The first servant invested his share and made a huge profit. The second put his smaller share to work and made a modest profit. The third servant was scared and simply hid his share away.

5 Talents Word When the businessman returned, he was very pleased with the first two, who delivered their profits to him, but he was disappointed with the third servant, who had not used what had been given to him and had not achieved anything.

6 Take a moment to quietly identify the talents you have?
Response We all have something to invest in this new school year. Some may appear to have been given more than others, such as academic ability, sporting talent, a great singing voice, instrumental skill or team leadership. Nevertheless, everybody here starts the new school year with some ability, skill, gift or talent. No one starts empty-handed. Take a moment to quietly identify the talents you have?

7 Talents Response Please invite a student to read quote aloud
"...Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.“ Nelson Mandela quoting from the book 'A Return To Love' (1992) by Marianne Williamson in his Inaugural Address.

8 Talents Dismiss May you have the courage to recognize that you are powerful beyond measure, that you are brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous member of the school. May you choose to live a life of integrity and come to understand that ‘playing small’ does not serve this community. May you see that you have a responsibility to let your own light shine and by doing this you will give other people permission to do the same.
