2 Defining the hospitality The hospitality field, by definition, is a service industry. Its task is to create shareholder wealth by servicing and satisfying guests. Industry segments include, among others: hotels, restaurants, private clubs, managed food service, event planning, tourism related businesses, and travel providers. More often than not, the product purchased is either intangible or the perceived quality of the product purchased is impacted by the service method in which it was received.

16 Basic facts traveller A traveller moves between different geographic locations for any purpose and duration. tourist A tourist who stays one night in collective accommodation or private accommodation in the place/country visited.

17 Domestic Tourist Someone who enjoys tourism within their own country. E.g. Maltese people might go see Hagar qim temples etc In Italy, Italians might go see the Vatican, or stay in Venice

19 Mass Tourist A form of tourism that involves tens of thousands of people going to the same resort at the same time of year.

20 Specialist Tourism Tourism with a purpose- not just lying on a beach or by a pool but people looking for something different to add something to their appearance.
