1 Update of District Goals and Initiatives
Presented to Charles H. Bullock PTA November 15, 2017

2 District Goals OBJECTIVES 1a: Completion of an assessment of district Special Education services, including, but not limited to, a detailed report of programs, demographics, pre-classification intervention procedures, out-of-district placements, and professional development by Jan., Recommendations to be made to the Board. 1b: Development of standards-based measures in the areas of Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry to determine students’ strengths and needs and better inform instruction by June, 2018. 1c: Review of guidance services for students and families at Montclair High School, including a baseline survey of satisfaction/concerns and a plan for improvement by Feb., 1d: Development of a plan to increase student participation and diversity in Honors and AP courses at Montclair High by March, 2018. District Goal 1 ( Board Goals 2,5) The Montclair Public Schools will strive to support students in acquiring the tools to be successful in school and in life, as measured by the achievement of the following objectives: 1b.Grades 3-8 math teachers will use Renaissance Learning at least 3 times as a resource to support student achievement. Providing workshops and onoing professional development to support the use.

3 District Goals District Goal 2/Board Goals 2, 5 The Montclair Public Schools will provide professional opportunities for teachers and administrators in order to support student achievement and equity, as measured by the achievement of the following objectives: OBJECTIVES 2a: Full implementation of the Renaissance Learning program and professional development for teachers in grades 1 through 8 in the use of achievement information to inform their instructional practices by June 2b: Implementation of the revised science curriculum for grades 1-5 with professional development provided to teachers in those grade levels, by June 2018. 2c: Continuation of Undoing Racism training and follow-up sessions (Montclair High School, new staff members, support staff) by March 2018. 2d: Review of SAIL program, with report on current status by November, 2017 and recommendations for revision by January, 2018. Renaissance Learning PD for Bullock on Friday, October 27 FOSS training for Friday, November 17 and Friday, February 23rd Full Option Science System 1. Scientific Literacy. FOSS provides all students with science experiences that: are developmentally-appropriate and serve as a foundation for more advanced ideas that prepare them for college and/or careers In today's world it is critical for all citizens to be scientifically literate. They should be able to make thoughtful, informed decisions on topics that will affect not only their lives, but the lives of generations to come. 2. Instructional Efficiency FOSS provides all teachers with a complete, flexible, easy-to-use science program that: reflects current research on learning, including collaborative learning, student discourse, and embedded assessment, and uses effective instructional methodologies, including hands-on active learning, inquiry, integration of disciplines and content areas, and multisensory methods SAIL Students Accelerated in Learning

4 FOSS 1.  All K-5 teachers were trained before school began this year. 2.  Consultant conducted a district walk-thru in October  Feedback shared with principals, and the feedback shaped discussions during fall PD. 3.  Principals PD on 11/1. 4.  Job-embedded fall PD for each school starting on 11/15 (the consultant will model a lesson with both primary and intermediate teachers and then debrief). 5.   Job-embedded winter PD for each school starting on 2/12 (the consultant will model a lesson with both primary and intermediate teachers and then debrief). 6. Spring walkthrough will be scheduled. 7.  An implementation survey will be sent after the winter PD session to inform next steps. SAIL 1.  Planning committee with representatives from elementary and middle schools.  2.  Attending a GT conference at Rutgers this Friday.  3.  Reviewed processes and best practices in other districts.  We hope to have a  process that includes: I. Multiple data points II. Universal Screener III. Opportunity for annual inclusion 4.  We hope to have a supplemental resources for SAIL in ELA and mathematics.

5 District Goals OBJECTIVES 3a: Creation of a MPS District Equity team to provide input and planning regarding professional development, curriculum and material selection, hiring, support services and parent/guardian engagement. 3b: Review of Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions at each school, including what we do, how we do it and our success by January, 2018. 3c: Professional development and support for Intervention and Referral Service ( I&RS) teams by November, 2017. 3d: Program review of Title I to determine effective use of funds as evidenced by student outcomes by June, 2018. District Goal 3/Board Goal 5 The Montclair Public Schools will continue to strive to reduce achievement gaps and address issues of equity as measured by the achievement of the following objective:

6 District goals District Goal 4/Board Goal 3 The Montclair Public Schools will compile information on all magnet schools and the small learning communities (SLC)at Montclair High School as measured by the following objective: OBJECTIVE Presentation to the Montclair Board of Education and Montclair public on current status of magnets and SLCs, including demographic data, mission, curricular differences, staffing and cost by April, 2018.
