Cattle Drives Had to get the meat to market without it spoiling.
Travelled hundreds of miles. What were some of the dangers of cattle drives? Stampedes, snakes, Indians. Stampedes happened more often on a dark night rather than a full moon. Why? How many men do you think you need to herd 3,000 cattle? 10-15
11
Cattle Drives Ended with the closing of the open range.
Texas used to be wide open with no fences. Cotton farming boomed. Fences closed the open range.

Railroads This also contributed to the end of cattle drives.
Refrigeration was beginning to be invented. Cattle could be butchered and then shipped. More railroads in Texas meant better transportation. People were able to move around easier.
