General Elections (continued):
2002: Won by the PNM. 2007: Won by the PNM. 2010: Won by the People’s Partnership (PP). Activity: Students will discuss why there were instances When General Elections occurred before five years. Activity: Students will discuss the significance of Nomination Day.

What takes place on Election Day?
1.Voting begins at 6 am. 2.Citizens over the age of eighteen are allowed to vote. 3. Citizens vote in a polling station in their constituency assigned to them by the EBC. 4. Your name must be on the Electoral List in order to vote. 5. You are then handed a ballot paper. 6. You vote in the privacy of a voting booth.

Election Day (continued):
7. You place an “x” by the candidate of your choice. 8. The ballot paper is then placed in the ballot box. 9. You then dip your right index finger in the electoral ink. 10. Voting end at 6 pm. Activity: Students will discuss the importance of the election results.

Activity: Role playing: The class will be divided into two groups. Each group will represent a political party and will have one student as the political leader of the respective parties. The remaining students from each group will act as supporters of the two political parties. The leader of one party will give a “victory speech” to his supporters and the leader of the other party will give a speech conceding defeat.

Closure: Students will recap the main aspects of the lesson.

Homework: Students are to write a journal entry relating to today’s lesson.
