Learn what gridding is and why it is a useful drawing technique. Learn to use gridding to draw an accurate line portrait drawing. Learn about the female artist, Bridget Riley. What I’m looking for… You understand what ‘gridding’ is, how to do it and why it is an important drawing technique. You are able to create an accurate grid to use You gain an ability to draw your own self-portrait accurately using this gridding technique. You gain knowledge and understanding about Bridget Riley in your prepwork.

4 5 minutes Watch a teacher demonstration to learn how to draw an accurate grid using your own self-portrait photograph and how to use this grid to draw your portrait accurately. 4

5 4) Begin to use your grid now to draw your self-portrait in LINE
Equip yourself with a 30cm ruler and draw a grid over your portrait photograph using 2cm squares. 20 minutes A B C D E F G H I 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 2) In your sketchbook, draw exactly the same sized grid on your next clean right hand page in the centre. 3) Now label across the top A, B, C, D…etc. and 1, 2, 3, 4 etc down the side. 4) Begin to use your grid now to draw your self-portrait in LINE 5

7 5 minutes Turn to the back of your sketchbook and thinking about the learning objectives from the start of the lesson, tick each statement that you feel confident you have learnt. Now at the right-hand side, write down one specific thing that you have learnt today that you didn’t know before.
