STEP 1: Write 3 bullet points that summarise the theme in the play. Consider: - HOW the theme is portrayed (i.e. is there a particular character that exemplifies it?) - how the theme develops throughout the play - how significant the theme is in the play. Is it the most important one? STEP 2: find 3 specific moments in the play that link to this theme, inc. key quotes.

Essay writing WHAT? HOW? WHY?
Consider the PASSAGE and the text AS A WHOLE. Have a clear plan with approx. 3 points. Once you have your POINT that answers the question, you can develop it by considering: WHAT? HOW? WHY? What moment in the play are you discussing? What happens? What evidence do you have? What techniques can you identify? Consider structure, form and language. What impact does this have on the audience? What contextual features link? How does this link to Shakespeare’s purpose?
