3
Homelearning You are going to complete a scatter graph on the computer or graph paper using the data and instructions provided. Describe what the graph is showing.
4
Place the statements in the correct part of the model
5
Widespread birth control
Expensive bringing up children High infant mortality Safe water and better waste disposal More women in work and therefore having children later in life Little or no birth control High incidence of disease Preference for smaller families High infant mortality Improved health care Better nutrition Poor housing

By the of the lesson All pupils will have played the smarties game
All pupils will have written a report about how there population has changed over time All pupils will be able to collect data for two different countries Most pupils will be able to the data to explain population change in that country.
7
Play the smarties game You will be working in groups of 6
On each table is a set of instructions Each group needs to choose a team leader who will explain the rules of the game You will be expected to complete the sheet provided during the game.
8
Using your findings Write a report using the headings about how your countries population changed during the cause of the game. What happened and how did it affect the population at each point? Example During the game my country experienced a deep economic recession. Poverty and the lack of jobs meant that a lot of males migrated to a countries where they could find jobs. This meant the population began to decrease due to migration. Having less males in my country also meant less children were born in the future; decreasing the population further.

inicators Russia Yeman Population 143.1 million 21.0 million GNI $7560 $870 Birth rate 10 40 Death rate 16 8 Natural increase -0.6% 3.2% Look at these two countries What does the data tell you about the population of each country? How are they different and what could the possible reasons be? Read page 145 In 6 to 8 sentences; compare reasons for Russia’s and Yeman’s population change.
11
Your own investigation
You are going to be given two countries to investigate. Using the link above you; you need to find the following information. Fertility rates (the average number of children a women will have) Birth rate Death rate % of HIV/Aids Life expectancy Like you did with Russia and Yemen; you are going to use the data to explain the population change within the countries
