The new CVD project was launched in 2004 with 2 main objectives:
Rationalisation of existing IT systems.
Harmonisation of IT architecture.
 Create economies of scale
 Make maintenance of organisation software simpler
The gradual implementation has now started

CVD is not a monolithic system to be used in all statistical domains but it is composed of:
Limited set of production systems
Set of generic specialised components, which can be used by the production systems
Guidelines for implementation, development, data exchange

4. Practical steps in implementation of CVD
Common SEP and reference / dissemination in place
Looking for opportunities - gradual migration to production systems

Communicating the CVD in Eurostat
Participating to international projects linked to CVD

Management of metadata: MH
Specialised statistical processing components: BBs
Reference: EUROBASE
Dissemination: COMEXT and Data Explorer
CVD production systems target:
Most applications in social statistics and microdata treatment: Generic SAS tool (GSAST)
National accounts applications: NAPS. Generic production system (GPS)
External trade and energy statistics, etc.: Generic COMEXT based system (GCOMX)
If no migration to CVD production systems then current systems:
SAM and Eurocube: Linked to BBs, maintained
FAME: maintained, (note: migration analysis needed)
