How to support your child’s learning at home.

Homework Children will receive their homework book every Thursday and handed in by the children on the following Tuesday They will choose an activity from the lists They can complete one of their own ideas- perhaps in response to a family day out etc. The aim of our homework is to continue your child’s learning at home, yet flexible Try to be creative and make it fun Occasionally some homework will be set- there will be a sticker in their book Don’t forget reading, reading green words/ red words and spelling them Homework hero.
13
WOW cards Please complete these when your child has done something to be celebrated at home It can be school/ learning related, something in a club like swimming lessons or anything in which you and your child are proud of such as staying over night at grandparents for the first time. These give us insight into what they can do or their interests to develop in our planning. WOW cards are really useful too!

Phonics Read, Write, Inc. programme (RWI)
Each sound is introduced- ensuring correct pronunciation Children learn ditties to match the sound Fred talk to segment and blend for reading (sounding out) Further into the programme Fred Fingers for spelling Green words will be stuck into their reading records. They need to read these by sight: so recognise them with out segmenting and blending The more practice they have the better- practice makes permanence!

Tricky Words (Red words)
These are words that they cannot sound out to read- ‘they just have to know them’ They need to be able to read and spell a good range of these by the end of Reception They then move onto common exception words in Year 1.
