Readers’ Workshop Mini Lesson emphasizing skill, strategy, or partnership. Independent Reading Meeting at their level and pushing forward. Individual Conferencing Guided Reading Groups & Strategy Groups

Unit Study Days – Immersed in Content
Social Studies - map skills, regions and rivers of GA, founding of GA, Creek/Cherokee culture, famous Georgians, economics, government Science: states of matter, energy, forces of push & pull, environmental changes, sun/moon/stars, and life cycles Health: nutrition and personal health, substance use and abuse, dental health, safety and accident prevention

Art Music Specials Calendars sent home monthly Guidance: Every other week with Mrs. Oaks on Fridays

BIRTHDAYS!! Birthday treats will be handed out during lunch (10:38)
Please send in all of the SAME treat. Example: all one type of donut, not assorted flavors Please make it easy for the birthday girl/boy to hand out Keep in mind we have two students with nut allergies and a dairy allergy.

Nutrition We eat snack first thing in the morning between 7:15 – 7:50. Please keep that in mind when deciding what snacks to pack. Students won’t be able to eat high sugar content snacks such as cupcakes, brownies etc.. No candy is allowed in the classroom at any time. No snacks that contain any type of NUT. SPILL PROOF Water bottles are allowed to keep our brains super hydrated!

Homework Students read nightly for 20-30 minutes
Practice their math facts (make it fun!) If students are consistently not completing work at school it will be sent home with an to explain what is going on. Please make sure it gets done and is sent back the next day. Involve them in activities around the house (cleaning, cooking, gardening etc.) PLAY OUTSIDE & EXPLORE!

Working toward… Flexible Seating
Different options available to students Learn where they work best and to take charge of their learning by making smart seating choices (I can move or ground them at any time) Movement during learning = more neurons firing, more pathways connecting

How Can You Help? Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep each night (about 10 ½ hours). Eat a good breakfast/pack a good nutritious snack & lunch (no candy please). Encourage them to talk about what they are learning. Read with your child and talk about what they are reading. Let them struggle! Work with us as a team to help your child have the best year yet.
