1st Amendment “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Citizens are allow to express their thoughts and feelings in a free society. 2nd Amendment “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Citizens have the right to have the right to bear arms. Which mean the right to have weapons, such as guns and the government shall not infringe people from this right. It is use for protection. Click the back button to return to main menu!

3rd Amendment “No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner; nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.” In the time of war or peace, soldiers are not allowed to live in any house is it has not been consent by the owner. 4th Amendment “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” The 4th amendment means that authorities do not have the right to search a person or their home without a probable cause, which necessarily means a good reason. In order for someone from high authority to search your premise they first have to have a approval search warrant from the judge. 5th Amendment “No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself; nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation.” No one can be put on trail for a capital or infamous crime. If a person on trail they cannot be place back on trail for a second time, which is known a double jeopardy. 6th Amendment “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed; which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor; and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.” The 6th amendment means that the state cannot make a person sit in prison for a very long time for trail, the maximum is 180 days. 7th Amendment “In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury shall be otherwise reexamined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of common law.” This amendment means citizens have the right to a jury in a civil case and if they are being sued. It is by law to have unbiased and non-judgmental jury as possible because that is given fair treatment to our accuser. In a civil case the value of the item must be more then twenty dollars. 8th Amendment “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.” The 8th amendment mean that the court are not allowed to excessively charge an accused person an insane amount of money for their bail or fine. Also, “nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted” is forbidden. The court let the punishment fit the crime, but this amendment prevents certain types of punishment such as torture, electric chair. 9th Amendment “The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.” The 9th amendment is making a statement about there are more rights to an individual than the ones that explicitly are mentioned. Even though there are not mentioned does not mean to take individuals for granted. This amendment protect citizens right and defense against all kind of possible abuse from the government. 10th Amendment “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” The 10th amendment simply means that there are certain but equal power that the states have and that the federal government have. Anything that the constitution does not mention that is given to the federal government than those is power that the states or the people of those state can have.
