4 IMT-Advanced Circular letter
March 2008 IMT-Advanced Circular letter The circular letter requesting candidate radio interface technology proposals for the terrestrial component of IMT-Advanced has been issued by ITU-R and it is publicly available here: There is also an associated web page. Not all the information has been posted yet and there will be forthcoming addenda to the circular letter, in particular to provide the radio interface requirements and the evaluation guidelines, after July The deadline for the proposals has not been confirmed yet, but it is expected to be around October 2009. Bruce Kraemer (Marvell); Darwin Engwer(Nortel)

5 March 2008 Circular Letter 5/LCCE/2 7 March 2008
Subject: Invitation for submission of proposals for candidate radio interface technologies for the terrestrial components of the radio interface(s) for IMT-Advanced and invitation to participate in their subsequent evaluation 1 Introduction ITU-R has commenced the process of developing ITU-R Recommendations for the terrestrial components of the IMT-Advanced radio interface(s). This work is guided by Resolution ITU-R 57 (see Attachment 1). Resolution ITU-R 57 on the “Principles for the process of development of IMT‑Advanced” outlines the essential criteria and principles which will be used in the process of developing the Recommendations and Reports for IMT-Advanced, including Recommendation(s) for the radio interface specification. 2 Purpose of this Circular Letter The purpose of this Circular Letter is to invite the submission of proposals for candidate radio interface technologies (RITs) or a set of RITs (SRITs) for the terrestrial components of IMT‑Advanced. This Circular Letter also initiates an ongoing process to evaluate the candidate RITs or SRITs for IMT‑Advanced, and invites the formation of independent evaluation groups and the subsequent submission of evaluation reports on these candidate RITs or SRITs. Within the ITU-R, the work on IMT-Advanced will be conducted in ITU Radiocommunication Study Group 5 (SG 5). While the final structure of SG 5 has yet to be finalized, as an interim measure, Working Party 5D (WP 5D) of SG 5 has been identified as the group responsible for this work. 9 IMT AHC Goals – March thru May
Bi weekly conference calls between March Plenary & May Interim Target is 2 slots for IMT discussions in May Goal is to complete technical submissions in defense of IEEE Requirement & Evaluation criteria for use in June ITU-R meetings We need to determine who has an interest in proceeding with a joint IEEE 802 input to WP5D on IMT-Advanced technologies. That work should be completed at the November meeting. The window in WP5D opens at their January/February meeting rather than the last meeting in Of course the window is three meetings so we can improve (and socialize) a IEEE 802 input. Bruce Kraemer (Marvell); Darwin Engwer(Nortel)

10 March 2008 Next Steps Correspondence groups are being established to try and reach agreement on numbers prior to the Dubai meeting. IEEE 802 will continue to participate. IEEE needs to organize more formal defense of proposals and organize attendees/presenters for the June WP5D meeting Bruce Kraemer (Marvell); Darwin Engwer(Nortel)
