2 Figure 1 (A) Nomogram predicting the post-repair sperm concentration in men after varicocele repair. Indications for physician: locate left varicocele grade on the “Left varicocele grade” axis. Draw line upward to “Points” axis to determine how many points toward improved sperm concentration that the patient receives for his left varicocele grade. Repeat this process for other axes, each time drawing straight upward to Points axis. Sum the points achieved for each predictor, and locate this sum on the “Total Points” axis. Draw a straight line down to find the predicted postvaricocele repair sperm concentration. (B) Nomogram predicting the post-repair sperm motility in men after varicocele repair. (C) Nomogram predicting the post-repair sperm morphology in men after varicocele repair. (D) Nomogram predicting the post-repair sperm TMC (total motile count) in men after varicocele repair. 3 Figure 2 (A) Calibration plot for post-repair sperm concentration. The calibration plot measures the correspondence between the nomogram-predicted values and the actually observed values. There are three lines in each calibration picture. The 45° dashed line represents ideal predictions where the predicted values perfectly match the observed values. The solid line is the calibration curve of the nomogram predictions with correcting for overfitting bias. The dotted line is the calibration curve of the nomogram without correcting for overfitting bias. The departure of the calibration curve from the 45° reference line indicates the calibration performance, with a larger distance indicating worse calibration performance. The small vertical lines under the upper horizontal axis depict the distribution of nomogram predicted values for patients in the study cohort. (B) Calibration plot for post-repair sperm motility. (C) Calibration plot for post-repair morphology. (D) Calibration plot for post-repair TMC (total motile count).
