2 Simulation Why do we do simulations?
Observation may be too slow, costly, or impractical The answer may not be obvious from using theoretical probabilities Can get reasonable accurate results using computers

3 Steps for a Simulation 1. State your assumptions —what are you assuming about the real-life situations? (Usually about the probability in the problem) 2. Model —describe how you will assign the random numbers 3. Repetition —run the simulation a large # of times 4. Conclusion —give an estimated probability
