1 Double Replacement Reaction Lab

2 Reaction Lab Purpose: to observe double replacement reactions and using these observations determine any solubility trend for the anions and cations used in the reaction. Procedure: put no goggles and aprons. Mix three drops of each compound as shown in the data table. Carefully record your observations in the data table. Be sure to include observations involving solubility.

3 Analysis 1. what is the general trend for solubility of a) sodium compounds b) acetates c) chlorides d) hydroxides e) sulfates f) carbonates g) phosphates h) chromates

4 Conclusion 1. What was one product that was made in every one of the reactions? How can you be sure of the solubility? 2. What factors may affect the solubility of a compound? 3. Choose five reactions which in an insoluble product (aka precipitate…) and write the balanced double replacement reaction including symbols which indicate the solubility of both the reactants and products. 4. Using the five reactions you chose in question #3 above write the balanced net ionic equation for the information of the precipitate.
