Introduction Narration forms an important and interesting part of our everyday communication, both oral and written. It is a skill that all of us need to use in both personal and work situations, and we ca be effective narrators if we understand its features and the process involved.

Definition Narration is telling stories of real or imagined people, reporting events or incidents or giving an account of our action and those of others.

Mechanism of narration
A narrative consists of a sequence of actions and events, usually in the order in which they happened. Particularly in past tense. Tenses can change according to the situation or routine narration Present incidents and events in chronological order, sometimes in flashback. The narrative could consist of just a paragraph or longer than that.

Setting or background, usually at the beginning of narration A beginning, middle and a clear ending. People (characters should realistic) Action and events Point of view of narrator Sequencing of events usually in the order of their happening Division into paragraphs Spoken communication in direct or indirect speech
