WHAT: A journey through time to explore how female gender roles and representations have been constructed, from care-givers to shopping fanatics. In short, what is a woman worth?

This lecture will take you through historical and social change from the1600s to today, focusing on the changing role of women – specifically, what makes them valuable. It will consider the importance of marriage and certain behaviours, and how these have been represented and reinforced in literature. Finally, we will settle on the importance of shopping and why the size of your engagement ring is important!
