Dr. Cech is a pioneer expert of spinal microsurgery of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine. (microlaminectomy—clip portion of degenerated disc and leave remainder to perform its normal function) The group can treat most cases without fusion; they believe fusion can cause extra wear on discs above and below the fusion. 90% of group’s cases are done as outpatient. The surgical incisions are smaller thus decreasing post op pain and increasing mobilization. Patients can usually go home the same day of surgery instead of 2-3 days in hospital. He also does outpatient laminectomies for cervical and lumbar ruptured discs.
