Mount Vernon Yacht Club Long Range Projects
2
Projects under consideration Replace/repair bulkhead along parking lot Dredging Replace/Upgrade of C and D Docks – Include upgrade of electric for E Dock Resurface parking lot, driveway

Bulkhead -- 450 Linear Feet

Bulkhead – Possible Soil Loss
7
Bulkhead – Sheeting Old, deteriorating sheeting – 25+ years old – 2x10 – Rotting?

Bulkhead – Sheeting
13
Bulkhead Replace or Repair Two experts recommend replacing entire bulkhead – Cost estimates range from $400/ LF and up – There are 450 linear feet of bulkhead ($180k) – Permitting could get extensive and expensive Three experts recommend replacing only the sheeting – Replace all sheeting with 3x10 boards ($90k) – Piles, whalers (Cross timbers) and tie rods are in good shape – Permitting should be simple – do job gradually as a repair MVYC expert (Ricky) recommends replacing only the bad sheeting – Do it as normal maintenance – no permitting – In-house project, a few hundred dollars at a time – We will investigate these options over the summer

Dredging Need to establish maintenance level for future dredging Need to start permit process now – 6 months to 1 year to obtain permit – Permit process will be more difficult from 2013 on – Economical disposal of spoils until end of 2012 Dont think VMRC will exercise jurisdiction over man- made boat basin Army Corps of Engineers approval may be uncomplicated Fairfax County permit process is unknown Team has been organized to apply for permit

C & D Docks + Electrical for E Dock Considerations: Complete replacement of C&D a significant outlay ($186k) Need longer fingers plus more piles to accommodate medium- sized boats on south side of C Dock Main decking 6 years old – At a minimum finger piers need replacing on both docks Need updated electrical and plumbing – Add pedestals for C Dock (8), D Dock (1), E Dock (4) – Install new Dominion Power 200 amp panel for C and D docks – Install electrical service from new panel to C and D Docks Feed E Dock from house panel – Connect pedestals to electric and water sources Could be a lengthy permit process

Parking Lot/Driveway resurfacing Should be done, but only after heavy equipment work is finished on site – Dredging – Bulkhead work – Material delivery for C & D

Recommended sequence Depends on approaches, but in general: 1.Beging Dredging effort – Apply for dredging permit now – Permit process will be more difficult from 2013 on – There is a time constraint on economics of spoils disposal (end of 2012 calendar year) 2.Bulkhead repair/replace – investigate extent of problem 3.C & D Dock repair/replace, + electrical service for E Dock – Set panel and run new electric service for C, D and E Docks (Could be done at any time) 4.Resurface parking lot after all heavy equipment work for dredging, bulkhead and dock work is finished
