5
Adding Integers Same sign – The sum of two positive integers is positive. The sum of two negative integers is negative. Different signs – The sign stays with the bigger +/- value. ex = ? The negative is with the bigger number (6) therefore the answer will be negative = -2
6
Practice #1 Find each sum:
7 + (-18) Different signs and the bigger number has a negative, therefore our answer will be negative. 7 + (-18) = -11 Same sign so we get a bigger negative number! = -43
7
You Try!!! Find each sum. -22 + (-16) Same sign!!!! -22 + (-16) = -38
60 + (-13) Different signs and the bigger number is positive so our answer will be positive! 60 + (-13) = 47
8
Practice #2 Find the sum:
-12 + (-6) (-2) (-2) -3 + (-2) -5!!!!
9
You Try!!! Find each sum. 1 + (-3) (-10) (-10) 0 + (-10) -10!!!! (-100) (-100) !!!!
