8. Ralston started his solo descent into the deep, narrow slot of Blue John Canyon.
Negotiating a ten foot drop between two ledges when an 800 lbs boulder shifted above him.
All the joys of future life came rushing into him.
Ralston was trapped, alone in a remote canyon. Rescue was unlikely,
Plan A, someone would find him and rescue him.
Plan B, chipping away the rock with a multi-tool.
Plan C, rigging ropes to move the boulder of his hand.
He re-rigged the ropes but was again unsuccessful, chipped away at the rock but was pointless.
He thought a lot about dying and was afraid at first, but came to peace with death.
On his fourth day, he ran out of water realizing he would die of dehydration.
Got his surgical table and applied the knife to his arm.
Managed to punctured the skin but realized he couldn’t cut through the bone therefore he had to break his own arm to cut off his arm.

Ralston rigged his ropes and repelled 60 feet to the canyon floor and he hiked 5 miles until he ran into 3 hikers. They gave him Oreos and water.
He was rescued by a helicopter and brought to the hospital for several surgical procedures
