Exploring the World! Year 2 Autumn 1
Art and Design Artist- Joan Miro Pupils will be taught to: *Use a range of materials creatively to design and make products. *Look at the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work. *Use sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination. *Develop a wide range of art and design techniques in colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. *Use a viewfinder to focus on a specific part of an artefact before drawing it. *Create a printed piece of art by pressing, rolling, rubbing, and stamping. *Make a clay pot. *Join two clay finger pots. *Suggest how artists have used colour, pattern and shape. *Create a piece of art in response to the work of another artist. Pupils will be taught to: Place value *Count numbers up to 100 using concrete objects: counting in ones and tens, forwards and backwards. *Know the place value of each digit in a 2-digit number. *Compare numbers from 0 to 100 using <, > and = signs. *Deepen their understanding of the place value of each digit in 2-digit numbers using number bonds. *Count in steps of 2 and 10 from any number, forwards and backwards. *Count in steps of 3 and 5 from any number, forwards and backwards. *Apply their knowledge of numbers to solve problems. Geography Weather Experts Pupils will be taught to: Location knowledge *Name and locate the world’s seven continents and five oceans. *Name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the UK and it’s surrounding seas. *Describe some of the features of an island. *Find where I live on a map of the UK. Human and physical geography *Identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the UK and the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles. *Use basic geographical vocabulary to refer to human and physical features. Geographical skills and fieldwork *Use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the UK and it’s countries, as well as the countries, continents and oceans of the world. *Use simple compass directions. *Use aerial photographs and plan perspectives to recognise landmarks and basic human and physical features; devise a simple map; and use and construct basic symbols in a key. *Use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds and the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment. Exploring the World! Year 2 Autumn 1 Science – Living things and their habitats Investigation – What different microhabitats can be found around the local area? Famous scientist – Dian Fossey Pupils will be taught to: *Explore and compare the differences between things that are living, dead and things that have never been alive. *Identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants, and how they depend on each other. *Identify and name a variety of plants and animals in their habitats, including microhabitats. *Describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain, and identify and name different sources of food. *Ask simple questions and recognise that they can be answered in different ways. *Observe and perform simple tests. *Use their observations and ideas to answer questions .*Gather and record data. Writing Narrative: Retelling of a fable- The Frog and the Scorpion. Write our own fable with a moral. Non Fiction: Writing an information leaflet; How to care for a Kitten! Information leaflet on E-safety Poetry- Repetitive poetry – On the Ning, Nang, Nong. Grammar & Spelling Expanded noun phrases. Adjectives Coordinating conjunctions. Spelling pattern: Or before l, ll Soft c, Suffix ‘y’ and ‘ly’ Homophones Reading: Content Domains * Draw on knowledge of vocabulary to understand texts. * Identify / explain key aspects of fiction and non-fiction texts, such as characters, events, titles and information. * Identify and explain the sequence of events in texts. * Make inferences from the text. * Predict what might happen on the basis of what has been read so far. Computing E-safety Pupils will be taught to: *Use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies. *Logon onto the computer using their unique username and password. *Access the internet independently. *Access a specific website using a search engine. *Enter a web address into the URL. *Know that the Internet is a large database which hosts websites. *Navigate through websites successfully. *Become familiar with a number of web-based resources. *Bookmark a favourite webpage and understand why this is useful. *Justify the value of specific websites. *Be aware of potential dangers when using the Internet and know my personal details must be kept private. *Know what an avatar is and why they should use one. PE Pupils will be taught to: Athletics *Be controlled when taking off and landing. *Throw with accuracy. *Combine running and jumping. Games *Master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities. *Participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending. *Make up a game with simple rules and a scoring system and teach it to a partner. *Play safely with a partner using a range of equipment. *Make up a travelling game with a partner using a quoit. *Make up a game with a partner that has a collaborative scoring system. Music Pupils will be taught to: *Use their voices expressively and creatively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhymes. *Play tunes and untuned instruments musically. *Listen with concentration and understanding to a range of high-quality live and recorded music. *Experiment with, create, select and combine sounds using the inter-related dimensions of music. *Sing and follow a melody. *Sing or clap increasing and decreasing tempo. *Create music in response to different starting points. *Use symbols to represent sounds. *Listen out for particular things when listening to music. R.E: Who is a Muslim and what do they believe? Pupils will be taught to: Knowing and understanding: *Recognise symbols and actions which express a community’s way of life. *Recognise some similarities between different communities. Express and Communicate: *Notice and respond sensitively to some similarities between different religions and world views. SMSC/PSHE Bouncing Back Bullying-Sticks and Stones Pupils will be taught to: *Know and can discuss that families and friends should care for one another. *Realise that people and other living things have needs. *Consider social and moral dilemmas that they come across in everyday life. *Deal with their feelings in a positive way.
