Great enthusiasm shown by the project team
We are very pleased to now have 4 volunteers qualified in PA1 & PA6aw – it was wonderful to get support for that free training via Calum Great enthusiasm shown by the project team Efforts by community members to educate others locally on INNS ID & has been quite successful Great to have the opportunity for volunteers to be trained to use knapsack sprayers for giant hogweed control Local community volunteers have, and continue to undertake, mechanical management of Giant Hogweed (with PPE) and Himalayan Balsam to reduce seed bank locally We have purchased some of the PPE required to undertake this work. We have yet to commence full spraying. Good to be able to learn and share knowledge and experience with the project team We have had great support from ACC in spraying more pervasive and harder to reach stands of INNS around our development.

Had the training been earlier in the season we could have done our own spraying last year
There didn’t seem to be an easy system of allocating volunteers to an area, and logistically collecting, using and returning the kit required Provision of advice, organisation of the training, distribution of PA certificates was challenging and has caused delays As newbies, it would have been good to go out and shadow someone experienced, at least once, to get us up and running and more confident about the whole process Disappointing that for the last two years the delivery of the giant hogweed spraying by AC was not done early enough and much of it was missed Opportunities to be involved with wider co-ordinated volunteer efforts across the catchment seem to be lacking - only one has been presented Communications between INNS programme and community members has been reported as challenging. Not sure why this is. Has led to some frustrations
