Indicate a speaker’s exact words. Izzy remarked, “I have lost my appetite.” Indicate a quotation within a quotation. Mark asked, “Did you hear Helen say ‘I am tired?’” Indicate exact words from a quoted source. In the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet says, “My only love sprung from my only hate” ( ).

Punctuate the title of a song. My favorite song is “The Taste of Ink” by The Used. Punctuate the title of a poem. Did you read “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”? Punctuate the title of a short story. Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour” is surprising.
