Energy in Nature Pg. 11
3
What is the source of energy for living things?
Who uses it first? Who uses it second?
4
Food Chains
5
Food chain- shows how energy moves through an ecosystem.
Refer to the diagram below to answer the following question(s). Food chain- shows how energy moves through an ecosystem.
7
Energy Pyramids = show energy in each step of the food chain.
Where are there more organisms? Why?
8
Producers-bottom of the energy pyramid=1st in food chain
What will the producers do with that energy? Use it to grow, Use it to live. It will burn off in these processes
9
Primary(1°) Consumers-
2nd in a food chain -eat producers Why are there less 1st consumers than producers??
10
Secondary(2°) consumers-
Eat 1° consumers. Why is there less energy at this level? Where did it go?
11
Tertiary(3°) consumers-
eat 2° consumers. This level has the least amount of energy. Why?
12
Decomposers- get energy from all the levels in the pyramid.
13
What is happening to energy?
14
Food Web – relationship of organisms as food and consumers in an ecosystem.
15
How big can the pyramid get?
Why is the third level consumer usually the top of the food chain? Do you think its common to have 4th level consumers? Why is it unlikely to have 4th level consumers? Why is it even more unlikely to have a 5th and 6th level?
