Hybrid cloud requires a new focus: the brokerage model emerges.
Becoming a cloud broker requires a more business-centric approach with an IT-as-a-Service (ITaaS) operational model. Order management across many vendors Dynamic pricing and catalog management Sourcing and provider management Billing and cost management The shifting focus to business operations requires new skills, new capabilities and new way of thinking about IT. Traditional IT Business operations Traditional IT operations Hybrid cloud Traditional IT operations consist of: Order, install and configure infrastructure Updates and patches Architecture design Performance management and capacity planning Manage virtual machines (VMs) New business operations require: Vendor management Order management Sourcing Pricing and catalog management Billing and reporting Manage VDCs Recognizing the need for a new type of IT management system, IBM was going about building a brokerage platform on top of our cloud management platform—not unlike others in this business area. But to support IBM’s vision for this next-generation IT operations model, we needed more of a business system—a supply chain management platform for IT. Enter Gravitant, founded by people who were experienced in business-to-business (B2B) supply chain management, with heritage from Commerce One and SAP. The notion of managing and optimizing IT service delivery as you would a supply chain is in the DNA of IBM Gravitant cloudMatrix®. Old IT approaches don’t work anymore because they are: Infrastructure focused Not IT service management (ITSM) extensible Rigid and inflexible Shadow IT is on the rise, and control is being lost: Business is driving the transformation Developers are leading adoption Decentralized but satisfies the business needs New skills are needed in the areas of: Sales and marketing Product and service management Demand and capacity management

How does brokerage fit into an existing ServiceNow/vRealize environment?
This service includes these elements as a part of a standard integration: Service orders placed in brokerage can be fulfilled by ServiceNow. (This is a standard integration.) Blueprint orders placed in brokerage can be fulfilled by vRealize. (This is a standard integration.) ServiceNow Configuration Management Database (CMDB) can be updated from the brokerage for assets ordered, provisioned or changed in the brokerage. (This is a standard integration.) Virtual machines (VMs) that are provisioned by vRealize can be defined in brokerage, or part of an estimated bill of materials (BoM) in brokerage, can be ordered through the brokerage, and can be included in billing reports generated by the brokerage. (This is a standard integration.) Brokerage planning (screen/compare) can be used to plan and model Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) deployments, regardless of how they are rendered.

How does brokerage fit into an existing ServiceNow/vRealize environment? (cont’d)
Public cloud services (AWS—Azure and IBM® SoftLayer ®) ordered and/or provisioned by ServiceNow and/or vRealize can be discovered and managed by the brokerage. Brokerage cost and asset management can be used to analyze cloud service consumption and provide input to optimization, regardless of how the cloud services were ordered and provisioned. Maintenance of a federated and curated catalog of public cloud services (Amazon Web Services, or AWS, Azure and IBM SoftLayer) is a continuous and ongoing process provided by the IBM Brokerage Service. Brokerage provides a platform to define, order and generate billing for a multi-provider, multi-service-model landscape, regardless of how the services are provisioned. Brokerage provides a platform to integrate multiple orchestration and/or IT service management (ITSM) solutions, providing choice, flexibility, and resilience for your IT landscape.
