Lesson 15 Key Concepts and Notes
2
Plane mirrors reflect light.
1. Plane mirrors reflect light.
3
2. A ray of light striking and reflecting from a mirror can be divided into two parts; an incident ray and a reflected ray.
4
3 The angle of incidence and the angle of reflection are measured from the normal, which is a line perpendicular to the plane of the mirror at the point of incidence.
5
4 The angle of incidence and the angle of reflection have the same value. This is referred to as the “law of reflection.”
6
5 Light can be reflected from one mirror to another.
7
6 The image seen in a plane mirror is a virtual image. Virtual images can be explained using the law of reflection.

Lesson 15 Notes
9
Incident ray: incoming ray that strikes the object
1. Incident ray: incoming ray that strikes the object
10
2. Reflected ray: outgoing ray that is reflected from the object
11
3. Normal: Line perpendicular to the plane of the mirror.
12
Angle of Incidence: angle between the incoming ray and the normal
4. Angle of Incidence: angle between the incoming ray and the normal
