The Context The seed is the word of God (Lk. 8:11)
The “soils” are different types of hearers The “wayside soil” represents those who fall prey to the devil and his devices (Lk. 8:12; see 2 Cor. 2:11) The “rocky soil” represents those who hear superficially (Lk. 8:13; Acts 24:25) The “thorny soil” represents those who are distracted (Lk. 8:14; 12:16-21) The “good ground” who those who obey the gospel (Lk. 8:15; Col. 1:3-6)

We Need To Take Heed Not To Be:
Forgetful hearers (James 1:22-25) Those who are hard of hearing (Matt. 13:15) Itching-ear hearers (2 Tim. 4:3-4) Stopped-ear hearers (Acts 7:57)
