2 Introduction Verb classes
There are three classes of verbs 1- Auxiliary verbs 2- Modal auxiliary verbs 3- Full/ lexical verbs

3 The auxiliary verbs be, do and have
Be + v.+ -ing = continuous verb forms You are lying Be + past participle = passive These books are printed in Hong Kong Activity/ insert the verb hide in a sentence showing present continuous tense.

4 do Do/does/did with simple tenses He works at bank. When does he work?
He doesn’t work at a bank. Do/does/did express emphasis I do like tennis Activity/ negate the sentence below: We like parties

5 Have + past participle= perfect verb forms
My car had broken down before. (P. perfect) I’ll have finished soon. (future) Activity/ give an example of present perfect tense.

6 Modal auxiliary verbs Can could may might will would
Shall should must ought to need He must do his homework. (obligation) I can speak French. (possibility) I’ll help you. (willingness) Can you help me. (request) Activity: Can you give me an example that expresses probability by using modal verbs?

7 Lexical/ full verbs Run write read talk ….etc. He runs quickly.
* be/do/have as full verbs I do a lot of business. We are at school. Activity/ does the was in the example below lexical or auxiliary verb? I was drowning, but they saved me.
