Maintained last year’s performance. Only one other school managed to improve on previous year. 7.7% above NLC average S4 Results at N4 Improvement on pervious year. 9% above NLC average Calculation based on Average tariff point. Take total number of tariff points and divide by number of students. At that level. How well did the students do that were presented? 12 Ongoing Changes to NQs In 2017 the Scottish Government directed the SQA to start removing compulsory units from all qualifications: National 5 from 2017–18 Higher from 2018–19 Advanced Higher from 2019–20

13 Changes to NQs The removal of the units may mean some of the following changes are implemented by the SQA: Extend or revise the existing question paper (exam) Extend or revise the existing coursework Introduce a new question paper (exam) Introduce a new item of coursework All the changes and current specifications with regard to assessment can be found on the SQA website

14 Changes to NQs The units being removed from National 5 and Higher courses will still be available as free-standing units for schools to use, where appropriate This could be when a pupil is clearly not going to attain at the level being attempted but has already attained at the qualifying level. e.g. attempting Higher but has already attained at Nat 5 – may be appropriate to attempt the units only (if applicable). This option is discretionary as the units are now no longer compulsory and cannot be guaranteed to be on offer in all subjects. Those on offer will be subject to normal SQA verification procedures to ensure the ongoing credibility of national standards.

15 Assessment In National 4 courses pupils must pass internal units ( no exam) Each unit assessment can be attempted twice If your child fails you will be informed by letter/ In the event of a second fail – we will inform you and discuss presentation at Nat 3. National 5 / Higher / AH will have an exam element, plus Some will involve an assignment/practical element or folio work that contributes to the overall mark. Progress will be monitored throughout the year and contact will be made where attainment at a particular level might be at risk.
