1 RADKE READER October 28, 2016 Classroom News
Math: Topic 3 Test will be next Friday, November 4th. The topic covers Place Value through the millions. Please have student practice writing, reading, ordering, comparing and rounding numbers. ELA: We finished reading The Trumpet of the Swan this week and watched the movie last Friday in class. The students did a plot summary graphic organizer on the novel and a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the novel and the movie. Our next novel will be The Tale of Despereaux by Kate Dicamillo. 2 What We’re Learning Next Week Classroom Behavior System
Reading: Wonders Realistic Fiction Spelling/Phonics: silent letters Writing: Subject/Predicate Math: Numeration Review Science: Properties of Matter Continued Social Studies: Ancient Civilizaitons-Egypt Snack Time 10:00 is our daily snack time as our 5th and 6th grade lunch/recess block is not until 12:20-1:00. Please send a healthy snack on the Pre-Approved District 41 Snack List. Classroom Behavior System We use Michele Garcia Winner Social Thinking. Terms your students should be very familiar with is expected and unexpected behavior. Students should use Superflex to overcome the team of unthinkables (unexpected behavior) and turn it around to display expected behavior throughout the day. Students will earn Radke Bucks throughout the day for expected behavior and pay unexpected fines. Students can buy high interest activities, such as: computer time, free time, lunch with teacher, inside recess, lunch with a friend, use of teacher chair, and much more! Be a H.E.R.O. 3 Halloween is Monday, October 31, 2016
Morning activities include a Pumpkin Lab demonstrating Conservation of Matter in Mrs. Radke’s classroom followed by Scary Stories. Afternoon activities include Parties in homeroom followed by a Halloween Parade of Costumes starting at approximately 1:45-2:30. Happy Haunting!
