1 Mrs. McMorrow Month of: February 2019
February was a quick month! We celebrated the 100th day of school and Valentine’s Day! We are focusing on resilience this month! Check out Seesaw for some pictures of all these activities! We started February continuing learning fractions! Students identify and represent common fractions with pictures, first and then on a number line. We wrapped up February reviewing multiplication and addition strategies. We have finally learned the last facts! We have continued our novel study unit with Sarah, Plain and Tall. Students are learning how to participate in small group book discussions through Literature Circles. In a Literature Circle, each student has a job to complete to facilitate the conversation: Discussion Director, Artist, Word Wizard, and Summarizer! We have jumped into severe weather storms! This month, we conducted our first investigation with traveling water. Ask about the paper towel task! In Social Studies, we have continued our unit focusing on the history of Massachusetts. We looked at maps of New England and practiced labeling important borders, islands, and bodies of water. We will soon begin learning who the Loyalists and Patriots were during the Revolutionary War! In writing, we practiced asking Detail Generating Questions to make writing more specific. This skill will be important when we are writing about a severe weather storm in science! We also starting crafting main events! Please Remember: Thank you for sending in such creative Valentine’s. We certainly felt the love in 3M!
