The Persimmon Hills Improvement Association (PHIA) Community Newsletter July 21, 2012 Board meetings not related to potential legal issues will be announced via the community website from this point on no later than 10 days prior to the day of the meeting. We should all be very aware of the speed limit and the hazards this presents to our members. Community Watch Please pay attention to suspicious vehicles/people in our neighborhood. Write down details / license plate numbers. Our community has been targeted a few times this year for burglaries. We can help our neighbors and the police by paying attention! us if something happens and we will spread the word via the website and through . Annual Dues Reminder Annual Dues Deadline: January 31, 2013 Amount Due: $95.00 ** Annual Dues Timeline adjusted to align with the spring tax deadline submittal **Must be postmarked no later than Feb 15th to avoid late fees. ** Bills will be mailed out the first week of December 2012 Covenants and Restrictions Due to complaints received from association members, the BOD has focused on enforcing the following covenants and restrictions this year: Boat Parking – Article III, p 3.15 Commercial Vehicle Parking – Article III, p 3.15 Lot Maintenance ( i.e. grass height) – Article III, p 3.5 Trash Removal – Article III, p 3.12 Warning letters have been issued to all concerned parties and legal action will be pursued. Newsletter July 21, 2012 National Night Out August 7th, 2012 Corner of Steeple Court and Persimmon Creek Road Starting at 6:30 PM until ~ 8:30 PM Please come out and meet your neighbors!! Food : BBQ, Coleslaw, Chips Beverages: Water, Soda Ice Cream from Brusters: Chocolate and Vanilla St. Mary’s County Crime Solvers plan to have a table set up and will be seeking donations. Please note: Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. We will not be providing chairs and tables as we did last year; except for those required to serve the food. July 21, 2012 PHIA NEWS Board and Committee Arrivals and Departures: Both Dick Copsey and Jackie Chambers have resigned for personal reasons. We are thankful for the support they provided !!! Cathi Telli has resigned from the Architectural Review Committee. We also thank her for her time and commitment over the past year!! Candice Patterson and Gloria Fusco have accepted positions recently. Candice has taken BOD position of secretary and Gloria has taken the vacancy left by Candice on the Financial committee. We welcome both and appreciate their efforts to support our community. Mosquito control through the county has commenced. They will be spraying every Thursday evening between the hours of 5 and 7 pm depending upon weather conditions (cooler than 90 degrees, acceptable humidity, no rain). Please remember to take appropriate precautions if you or a member of your family has a health related condition that would be sensitive to the spray. Also, protect your pets in a similar manner. Requests for denial can be submitted to the Board by filling out the form available on the community website ( click on Newsletters and Forms at the upper right hand corner of the webpage ) and either mailing, ing, or handing it to a BOD member. Bradford Pear Trees The stump located near the Metcom station still needs to be ground and will likely be funded in Additional trees near the front entrance will be evaluated for removal and replacement in 2013. Thanks to all that have quickly removed debris resulting from damaged trees! ARC Vacancies: We are looking for volunteers to serve on ARC. Please us if you are interested. By Laws, Covenant and Restriction Updates: Just a reminder – the Board of Directors is still accepting recommendations for changes to the By-Laws. The deadline for recommendations is the end of August Voting on the changes will be conducted in September. Copies of the By-Laws, the Declarations and Covenants, and the Maintenance and Management Declarations can be found at the PHIA website. You will also find a document with the changed proposed to date, as well as a form to make recommendations. Also, funding priorities for 2013 are being collected and are under review. Inputs can be ed to us using the PHIA address noted in this newsletter and available on our community website.
